{{/presale}}Issued in five weights each year, the Proof Mexican Libertad Gold Series is a coveted collection that often features very low mintages. Youll only have a limited time to act in buying Proof Mexican Libertads as the Mexican Mint has severely limited the mintages of each of the five weights in the series. In fact, the 1/4 oz gold coin issued in 2021 comes with the second-lowest mintage in its history. Today, you have an opportunity to get 2021 Proof Mexican Libertad 1/4 oz Gold Coins online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
For 2021, the Mexican Mint has increased the mintages for all of its Proof Mexican Libertad Gold Coins. However, these increases come off the back of record lows for each of the coins in 2020 that matched all-time lows in the program. The mintage of 450 coins for the 1/4 oz gold weight is the second-lowest behind only the 2020 and 2014 releases, both of which had mintages of 250 coins.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2021 Proof Mexican Libertad 1/4 oz Gold Coin is a depiction of Winged Victory. A figure that dates back to the Mexican war of independence with Spain, she is a symbol of triumph over oppression and victory in battle. She is shown on these coins as she appears on the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column. The inscriptions on this field of the coin read 1/4 ONZA, ORO PURO, 2021 LEY 999, and the OM mint mark of the Mexican Mint.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2021 Proof Mexican Libertad Gold Coins is an image of the Mexican coat of arms. The national seal consists of a powerful golden eagle struggling to consume a serpent. This battle is playing out on the arm of a prickly pear cactus with a wreath made from oak and laurel below, and the inscription of ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above.
History
Proof Mexican Libertad Gold Coins were first issued with a lone 1/2 oz issue in 1989. There was not another issue of the coins until 2004 when these 1/4 oz gold coins were issued. In 2005, the 1/2 oz coin returned alongside the 1/4 oz gold coin, as well as the first issues of 1 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz gold coins.
