History
This 2021-coin release was created and produced by the Paris Mint based in France. The coin showcases the Olympic flag handoff from Japan to France. Paris has been booked as the next location for the Summer Olympic games to take place in 2024. France is planning on making it a historical event by having the largest opening ceremony in history, which will take place outdoors along the Seine River rather than in a stadium.
Obverse
The famous Olympic flag handoff event in 2020 is showcased on the obverse of the 2021 Proof French Tokyo to Paris Handover 1/4 oz Gold Coin. This event occurred at the conclusion of the last Games, which were in Tokyo, Japan. At the conclusion of the games, the flag was handed over to France, which is the next host country scheduled for 2024. The Tokyo Tower and Eiffel Tower are also on the obverse to represent both countries.
Reverse
The individual flags for Japan and France are represented in the design featured on the reverse of the 2021 Proof French Tokyo to Paris Handover 1/4 oz Gold Coin. The famous circle on Japans flag has been incorporated into the overlapping ring design from the Olympic logo. The horizontal lines included on the reverse make reference to the French flag.
