{{/presale}}In ancient China, the Celestial Animal was a powerful representative of fundamental properties of nature, and together, the tortoise and the snake symbolized longevity. Over the centuries, the two animals came to be collectively represented by the Black Tortoise or the Black Turtle, the guardian of the north and the season of winter. One of the most supreme among the Supernatural Beasts, this symbol showcased the virtues of stability and safety and stood for the restful properties of the element of water, offering protection against floods and avalanches. All of these traits are paid tribute by the New Zealand Mint with the 2021 Niue Celestial Animals The Black Turtle 1 oz Silver Coin, now on offer from the team at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The 2021 Niue Celestial Animals The Black Turtle Silver Coin offers the rich, lustrous finish of a Brilliant Uncirculated coin, emphasizing the quality of its engravings. It ships either in a secure plastic capsule or in rolls of twenty, tracked and fully insured by Provident Metals against any chance of mishap in transit.
Obverse
The coin’s obverse side features an effigy of the late Queen Elizabeth II to verify it as legal tender of Niue. This is accompanied by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “NIUE,” “2 DOLLARS” and “2022.”
Reverse
Accompanied by its traditional snake partner, the Black Turtle appears on the coin’s reverse side. It’s accompanied by an inscription that verifies the weight and purity of its silver content, and is surrounded by a decorative border.
History
The Celestial Animals Series from the New Zealand Mint celebrates some of the most iconic supernatural beasts to be found in any of the world’s mythic traditions, rich with symbolism and resonant with still-extant traditions of astrology, divination, medicine, and natural philosophy. These traditions serve as guidelines for everything from the personalities likely to manifest in babies born at certain times of year, through to the architectural and decorating customs of feng shui. The Mint has celebrated the Green Dragon and the White Tiger, and now offers the Black Turtle for the delight of discerning collectors and investors alike.
