Lady Liberty features on the obverse side of 2021 Morgan Dollar Commemorative Silver Coins. This design was created in 1878 and captures Liberty in left-profile relief wearing a Phrygian cap. Not only is she wearing a Phrygian cap, but she is also wearing a laurel wreath and a coronet crown. Inscriptions on this side of the coin read E PLURIBUS UNUM and 2021, with a set of 13 stars within the design field.
Reverse
In the reverse design of 2021 Morgan Dollar Commemorative Silver Coins, the original heraldic eagle design from George T. Morgan features. This visual shows a powerful bald eagle in front-facing relief with its wings spread and its talons clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. The eagle is framed by a wreath of oak and laurel. Inscriptions on this side include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.
History
In 1921, the US Mint resumed silver dollar coining for the first time since 1904. When it did, the Morgan Dollar design from 1878 was revived for use on the coins. Historically, the Morgan Dollar was issued from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921. In total, the Philadelphia Mint, Carson City Mint, New Orleans Mint, San Francisco Mint, and Denver Mint all issued the coins.
The 2021 release featured a Philadelphia coin with no mint mark, two Philadelphia coins with honorary CC privy marks and O privy marks celebrating the Carson City and New Orleans Mints. The San Francisco and Denver Mints also issued coins with the respective S and D mint marks.
