These new pieces feature the classic 1878 design created by George T. Morgan and are produced on Brilliant Uncirculated silver blanks made from .999 fine silver. Each of the 2021 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins in this listing is packaged in a protective plastic capsule. For the 2021 commemorative release, the United States Mint produced Morgan Dollars with a range of mint marks and special privy marks. These privy marks pay tribute to former branch mints that once produced Morgan Dollars but are no longer active today. Because coins are selected randomly after payment is processed, we cannot promise which mint or privy mark will be included with your purchase.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2021 Morgan Dollar Coin is the familiar portrait of Liberty in left-profile relief. Originally designed by George T. Morgan in 1878, Liberty is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap on the back of her head along with a coronet inscribed with Liberty. Her hair is detailed with a laurel wreath woven into the strands. The inscriptions here include E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 2021.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2021 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin features the heraldic eagle of the United States. In this design, the bald eagle appears in a forward-facing view with its wings extended. The eagle holds arrows and an olive branch in its talons, traditional symbols of strength and peace. This side of the coin also displays the mint mark or privy mark depending on the version struck. Inscriptions here include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.
History
The Morgan Silver Dollar commemorative program in 2021 consisted of five different versions. Three of those coins were issued by the Philadelphia Mint, including a Brilliant Uncirculated coin with no mint mark, a coin featuring a CC privy mark recognizing the historic Carson City Mint, and another with an O privy mark honoring the New Orleans Mint. The other two coins were struck at the San Francisco Mint with an S mint mark and the Denver Mint with a D mint mark.
