Home to the Diamond Waterfall and located in the South West of the island in a town called Soufrire, the St Lucia Botanical Gardens are the oldest on the island. Also called the Diamond Botanical Gardens, it covers an area of around six acres, and holds a lush selection of local flora, and Sulphur springs. The springs were formed approximately 40,000 years ago, and are weakened parts of an old collapsed crater of huge dimensions. Bathing in them has been said to be therapeutic for almost 250 years.
Design
On the obverse of the coin, youll find the popular 1998 effigy of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. For the reverse, the coin holds an image ofEtlingera elatior, more commonly known as the Torch Ginger, or the Ginger Flower. An attractive flower, its actually considered to be an invasive species in many places, due to being transported widely for decorative purposes.
History
With a limited mintage of 25,000 coins, you can join the super exclusive club of collectors and investors who have recognized the high value of these unique coins. When it comes to the EC8 program, the partnership between the Scottsdale Mint and the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank sought to represent the eight island territories of this specific region. They include Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Dominica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Montserrat, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. All nations are legal tenders of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, and each of their designated coins features rich designs and low mintages.
