The OECS was formed in 1981 by Antigua and Barbuda, as well as Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The ECCB was formed in 1983 to serve as a central bank and monetary authority for these member states.
Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse side of 2021 Colorized EC8 Antigua and Barbuda Silver Coins. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. This tiara is said to be the Queens favorite as it was originally gifted to her grandmother, Mary of Teck, when she married the future King George V, Elizabeth IIs grandfather. Elizabeth II is flanked by fern leaves on this field of the coin. Inscriptions include EASTERN CARIBBEAN CENTRAL BANK, 1 OZ .999 SILVER, QUEEN ELIZABETH II, and TWO DOLLARS.
Reverse
A frigate bird is shown above the islands of Antigua and Barbuda on the reverse of 2021 Colorized EC8 Antigua and Barbuda Coins. The bird is captured in a colorized visual on this side, with the black, blue, and green hues of its plumage captured in the design, as well as the red gular pouch of the male of the species. The inscriptions on this side read 2021 and ANTIGUA & BARBUDA.
