{{/presale}}Looking back at the American Revolution, all historians can agree that the seeds of war were sown over the course of more than a decade leading up to the Battles of Lexington and Concord. What some historians argue is the actual first shots of the war. While most view Lexington and Concord as the beginning of active hostilities, others point to the Battle of Alamance as some of the first shots fired in the movement toward independence. Today, you have the opportunity to get 2021 Colorized American Revolution Battle of Alamance 1 oz Silver Coins online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
History remembers the Battle of Alamance as the final fight of the War of the Regulation, a conflict between American Colonists in western North Carolina and the Royal Governor and provincial government in the colonys capital. The war lasted from 1765 to 1771 and was largely made up of minor skirmishes. Though the numbers that fought at the Battle of Alamance were significant, 3,000 soldiers between the sides, the deaths numbered a maximum of 36 deaths with fewer than 100 injured.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2021 Colorized American Revolution Battle of Alamance 1 oz Silver Coins is a depiction of a line of soldiers preparing to fire. While the common battle tactic of the day was to amass troops in a line as depicted here, to then fire at one another in close quarters, the Regulators often used the tactics of indigenous tribes by taking cover in the treeline and firing at their opponents. The inscriptions on this side read Battle of Alamance and 1771-2021, with the latter marking the 250th anniversary of one of the first steps toward the American Revolution.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2021 Colorized American Revolution Battle of Alamance Silver Coin features a depiction of American Colonists gathering around the Liberty Tree. An elm that sprouted around the mid-1640s, the Liberty Tree was a popular gathering place for American Colonists to hear public speeches and share opinions on the growing divide between the colonies and the British government in North America and in London. Inscriptions include America, $1, and Mesa Grande Sovereign Nation.
History
While the seeds of disagreement that fueled the War of the Regulation and resulted in the Battle of Alamance were the same as those that led to the American Revolution, some scholars dispute the connection between this fight and the broader engagements of the American Revolution. The Regulators were pushing back against taxation and a lack of local control, but many point out that they used all avenues available to first avoid war. In fact, the Regulators were more interested in removing corrupt officials than ousting the entire British government structure in North Carolina.
