History

The Chinese Silver Panda program has a unique history. From 1983 to 1985, these coins were struck with 27 Grams of 90% silver. Following a brief production gap, the series resumed in 1987 with 1 Troy oz coins made from sterling silver. In 1989, the coins were standardized with .999 fine silver content and issued in a Brilliant Uncirculated finish. Earlier editions were exclusively proof coins.
