{{/presale}}From the Roman era to the modern day, tales of an individual slaying a serpent on horseback have been told in cultures around the globe. When the tale reached the ears of Western Christians, the legend of this figure was transferred to St. George. Even though this occurred centuries after his death, the legend has stuck and has been widely accepted and celebrated in England since the 12th century. Provident Metals now has the 2021 British Valiant 10 oz Silver Coin available to you for purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase the 2021 British Valiant 10 oz Silver Coin from Provident Metals, you will receive a coin that has either individual or multiples packaging from the Royal Mint of England. Individual coins are available in protective acrylic capsules, with multiples of 15 coins housed inside of boxes.
Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II is found on the obverse of the 2021 British Valiant Silver Coin. This is the fifth-generation portrait of Elizabeth II to feature on British coinage. The longest-reigning monarch of England, Elizabeth II has sat on the throne since 1952 and is featured once again in a right-profile relief design. She is seen at the age of 89 in this depiction with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. The background field has the Royal Mints guilloche visual element with inscriptions around the design element of 10 Pounds, Elizabeth II, and D.G. Reg. F.D.
Reverse
St. George is depicted in a modern, stirring vision of George riding his horse out to battle the dragon in the reverse design of the 2021 British Valiant 10 oz Silver Coin. St. George rides on a powerful steed as he tramples over the dragon and drives his spear into its neck. Many tales of St. Georges conquest over the beast speak of him first striking the dragon with his spear before dismounting and slaying it with his sword. Inscriptions on this side include 10 oz Fine Silver 999.9 and 2021.
History
Tales of St. Georges conquest over the dragon date to the Roman era and the tale of Thracian horsemen. This concept was then associated with a Christ militant on horseback slaying a serpent. By the Middle Ages, the dragon became a symbol of evil and the devil among Christian nations, with St. George eventually associated with being the horseman who rode out to slay the serpent, a dragon.
