{{/presale}}One of the most famous cultural tales in England is that of St. George slaying a dragon. The image of St. George has long featured on the most important coin series of the last 200 years in England, the British Sovereign. As of 2019, St. George now features in a distinctive coin series available in two silver weights. Today, you have the chance to buy 2021 British Valiant 1 oz Silver Coins online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
While St. George died in 303, tales of him taming and slaying a dragon that was terrorizing a town originated in the 11th and 12th centuries. The legend of a Christ militant on horseback slaying a serpent originated in the artwork of northern Macedonia in the early 5th century and this iconography was eventually transferred to St. George in Christian nations of Western Europe centuries later.
Obverse
On the obverse side of the 2021 British Valiant 1 oz Silver Coin is a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief in a design created in 2015 by Jody Clark. This is the fifth-generation effigy of the Queen to grace English coinage and it shows Her Majesty with the George IV State Diadem Crown. The inscriptions on this face of the coin include 2 Pounds, Elizabeth II, and D.G. Reg. F.D.
Reverse
The reverse face of 2021 British Valiant Silver Coins includes a depiction of the legendary St. George on horseback as he rides into a fight against a dragon. Sturdy upon his steed, St. George reaches out his spear to slay the beast. Inscriptions on this side of the coin read 1 oz Fine Silver 999.9 and 2021.
History
St. Georges legend came to England in the Medieval period, with some attributing his appearance of cultural tales to the returning soldiers who had been fighting in the Crusades in the Holy Land.
