Obverse
The obverse field of the 2021 Australian Kookaburra 1 oz Silver Coin comes with a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. In this design, Her Majesty is shown in right-profile relief with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head, earrings, and the Victorian coronation necklace around her neck. The field includes inscriptions of Elizabeth II, Australia, and 1 Dollar.
Reverse
On the reverse face of 2021 Australian Kookaburra Silver Coins is an image of the kookaburra. The kookaburra is the largest member of the kingfisher species and is a terrestrial tree-dweller. The name of the species comes the indigenous Wiradjuri word guuguubarra. This design shows the bird perched on a tree branch as it looks to its left. The design field includes inscriptions of Australian Kookaburra, 2021 1 oz 9999 Silver, and features a P mint mark from the Perth Mint.
History
The Australian Kookaburra coins are available as of 2010 in weights of 1 oz, 10 oz, and 1 Kilo silver each year. Prior to 2010, a 2 oz silver coin had been available from 1992 to 2009. The highest recorded mintages in the 1 oz series occurred between 2011 and 2016 when the coin reached its maximum mintage of 500,000 each year. The reverse side of each coin has a new security feature introduced in 2020 that features a micro-laser engraved letter within the Australian Kookaburra inscription at the top of the design rocker.
