Highlights:
Over the course of the history of the Australian Kangaroo Gold Series, the Perth Mint has offered a total of eight coin weights. The Australian Nugget Series that evolved into the Australian Kangaroo featured 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold. The 1990 transition to the Australian Kangaroo brought with it 1 Kilo and 1/20 oz gold. Over time, 2 oz and 10 oz gold coins were added. As of 2016, the only options left in the series are the 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1 Kilo gold coins.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2021 Australian Kangaroo 1/2 oz Gold Coin, you will find a right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. In this sixth-generation design, the Queen is depicted at the age of 89 as she wears the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head, earrings, and the Victorian coronation necklace around her neck and shoulders. The design element comes with inscriptions of Elizabeth II, Australia, and 50 Dollars.
Reverse
The reverse side of 2021 Australian Kangaroo Gold Coins includes a new design with the image of the red kangaroo. This years exclusive imagery includes a crouching kangaroo that is shown in front of native flora from the Australian continent that include the Waratah and the Kangaroo Paw. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include Australian Kangaroo, 2021 1/2 oz 9999 Gold, and a P mint mark from the Perth Mint.
History
In the 2021 release, the Australian Kangaroo Gold Coins include unlimited mintages for the 1 oz and 1 Kilo coins, and limited mintage caps for the three fractional-ounce coins. At just 100,000 to be struck, the 1/2 oz gold coin has the lowest mintage by far in the collection. Comparatively, 150,000 of the 1/4 oz gold coins and 200,000 of the 1/10 oz gold coins will be produced.
