History
After a century in existence, the STS Sedov has had quite the life. Her first name was Magdalene Vinnen II, which she kept from 1921 to 1936. Afterward, she was sold to German shipping company Norddeutscher Lloyd and given the new name of Kommodore Johnsen. During this period, she transitioned from being a cargo ship to a training vessel for cadets. In 1945, she received her current name of Sedov when Germany handed her over to Russia for wartime reparations. Today, she continues to be a training vessel at the universities of Saint Petersburg, Kaliningrad, and Astrakhan.
