Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II is depicted on the obverse side of 2020 Tuvalu Black Flag The Royal Fortune Silver Coins. Her Majesty is shown here in the fourth-generation British design from artist Ian Rank-Broadley. This is one of the most widely-used designs in English history as it featured on British and Commonwealth coins from 1998 to 2015 in England, with other Commonwealth nations adopting it in 1999 and, in some cases, still using it in the 2020s. Her Majesty is surrounded in the design by inscriptions of Queen Elizabeth II, Tuvalu 1 Dollar, 2020, and 1 oz 9999 Ag.
Reverse
The Royal Fortune sails again on the reverse of 2020 Tuvalu The Royal Fortune 1 oz Silver Coins. The second ship to feature in the Black Flag Series, the Royal Fortune was the flagship of Black Bart. From the deck of the Royal Fortune, Black Bart terrorized the Gold Coast of Africa and the Caribbean Sea for three years between 1719 and 1722. In this design, his ship sails across the ocean with a large pirate skull in the background. Inscriptions on this face include The Royal Fortune, 1 oz. 9999 Ag, and Black Flag: Black Bart. All of the inscriptions are written in a pirate script for visual effect.
History
Black Bart was born in Wales, United Kingdom, as John Roberts. He went by the name Bartholomew Roberts before he became known as the pirate Black Bart. Though the Royal Fortune features as his flagship for the design of this series, he actually commanded several vessels as a flagship during his career. The Royal Fortune just happened to be his final flagship. In total, he is credited with capturing more than 400 vessels during his career, with some estimates pinning the exact number at 470.
