{{/presale}}Una and the Lion is a design element that has been depicted on British and Commonwealth coins in various versions over more than 180 years. The most significant British design was that of Queen Victoria as Una alongside the lion in 1839, but recent modern bullion coins have reimagined the imagery on silver coins. Right now, you can purchase 2020 St. Helena Una and the Lion 1 oz Silver Coins online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Provident Metals is happy to offer the 2020 St. Helena Una and the Lion 1 oz Silver Coin to you in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are offered inside of individual protective plastic flips. Multiples are housed inside of either acrylic mint tubes of 18 coins or boxes of 450 silver coins. The box features a total of 25 individual 18-coin tubes.
Obverse
On the obverse side of the 2020 St. Helena Una and the Lion 1 oz Silver coin is a bust of Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile relief. This image of the Queen was developed in 2015 by Jody Clark for use on Royal Mint of England coinage. The design is accompanied by an ornate border with inscriptions of Elizabeth II, D.G. Regina F.D., St. Helena, and 1 Pound.
Reverse
The reverse face of 2020 St. Helena Una and the Lion Silver Coins features a new depiction of Una and the Lion. Una encountered the lion on her quest to save her parents from a ferocious dragon that had taken her parents and her familys kingdom captive. Rather than attack her, the lion was overcome by the beauty of Princess Una and instead accompanied her as a steadfast companion. The duo is shown here with the lion standing confidently in front of Una as it unleashes a roar. Inscriptions read Una and the Lion, 1 oz 999 AG, and 2020.
History
Edmund Spencer, a British author, wrote the Fairie Queene and saw his poem published in 1590. In 1839, a British coin was issued in the reign of Queen Victoria that reimagined Queen Victoria as Una. She was shown leading the lion forward, a symbol of her guidance of the British people.
