{{/presale}}Somalia Elephant silver and gold bullion coins from the Bavarian State Mint feature the image of the worlds largest living land mammal. The African bush elephant is a massive species, with bull males standing as high as 13 feet tall at the shoulders and tipping the scales around 13,334 pounds. Right now, you can buy the 2020 5 oz Somalia Elephant 5 oz Silver Coin online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The African bush elephant is the largest land mammal living and the largest of the three elephant species still alive today. The bush elephant is heavier and larger than the Asian elephant and the African forest elephant, the other living species of African elephant on the continent. Though the African bush elephant and African forest elephant live in the same types of habitats on the continent to some extent, you will only find the forest elephants in Central Africa. Bush elephants have a wider distribution across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Obverse
The obverse side of 2020 Somalia Elephant 5 oz Silver Coins features the Somalia Republic coat of arms. The design centers on a crowned shield that has a background of horizontal lines and a single star in the center. There is a leopard to support the shield on either side with fern leaves and spears crossed below the shield. Inscriptions on this side include the date mark, nation of issue, and the face value of the coins.
Reverse
Designs on the reverse of Somalia Elephant coins change each year. The 2020 Somalia Elephant 5 oz Silver Coin depicts two adult elephants facing the center of the coin looking at one another. While both are mature adults, the elephant on the left has much longer tusks than the one on the right, signaling that it is most likely much older than the other. Mount Kilimanjaro is featured in the distant background.
History
Somalia Elephant silver coins were first released for the nation of Zambia from 1999 to 2003. Since 2004, the coins have been issued on behalf of Somalia. The series originally included only 1 oz .999 pure silver coins. Since 2016, the silver series has expanded to feature weights such as these 5 oz silver coins with purity levels boosted to .9999 silver across all available weights.
