The coins in the gilded release of a thin layer of 24-karat gold applied to the reverse design element to create a visual contrast between the image of the leopard and the background field. Each one of the coins has an individual protective plastic capsule for shipping and storage.
Obverse
The obverse side of 2020 Somalia African Wildlife Leopard 1 oz Silver Coins includes the national seal of Somalia. The coat of arms for Somalia features a crowned shield that boasts a single star against a background of horizontal lines. There are leopards on either side of the shield supporting it with a beaded border around the entire design field. Inscriptions include Somalia Republic above the shield, the 2020 date mark split 20 and 20 on either side of the shield, and the face value of 100 Shillings beneath the design element.
Reverse
On the reverse face of the 2020 Somalia African Wildlife Leopard Silver Coin is a depiction of the powerful predator lounging in a tree. Leopards are one of the few predatory cats, along with the jaguar, to haul its kill high up into trees to protect the meal from scavengers and other potential predators. Inscriptions on this face read African Wildlife, Leopard, and 1 oz Ag 999.9.
History
The African Wildlife Elephant coins served as the foundation for the series and launched for Zambia in 1999 before transitioning to Somalia in 2004. The African Wildlife Leopard Coins debuted in 2018 with mintage caps on the bullion issues. The 2020 coin has a maximum mintage of 30,000 specimens, with 5,000 of those devoted to the production of these gilded versions.
