Highlights:
With your purchase of the 2020 Royal Australian Mint Year of the Rat 1 oz Gold Coin, you receive an item that is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are housed individually inside of protective plastic capsules. The Royal Australian Mint is excited to introduce a new security element, invisible to the naked eye, only for the Royal Australian Mint Year of the Rat gold coins.
Obverse
For the obverse of the 2020 Royal Australian Mint Year of the Rat 1 oz Gold Coin, you will find the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is depicted here in what is the fifth-generation design for Australian coins. It was designed originally in 1998 by Jody Clark for the Royal Mint of England and debuted on Australian coins in 1999. This design includes the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara on Her Majesty’s head. This tiara is said to be the Queen’s favorite and features in countless designs of Her Majesty on British and Commonwealth coinage. Inscriptions read “Elizabeth II,” “Australia,” and “100 Dollars.”
Reverse
In the reverse design element, 2020 Royal Australian Mint Year of the Rat 1 oz Gold Coins depicts two rats. The rats are shown here resting on an oak branch with three oak leaves and a single acorn in the design element. The use of two rats and three leaves reflects the importance of the numbers 2 and 3 in Chinese mythology. The numbers are associated with fortune and luck. Inscriptions include “2020,” “1 oz .9999 Au,” and the Chinese symbol for a rat.
