Obverse

The obverse face of 2020 Mexican Libertad 1 oz Silver Coins features the modern Mexican coat of arms in the center. This seal includes a golden eagle on a cactus as it battles a serpent. The design has a wreath below and an inscription of Estados Unidos Mexicanos above. Around the edge of the design field, 10 historic versions of the Mexican coat of arms are showcased.

Reverse

On the reverse side of 2020 Mexican Libertad Silver Coins is a depiction of Winged Victory. This symbol is prominent in Mexican society and can be found today atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City. Depictions of Winged Victory date back to the 19th-century struggle for independence from Spain, with the first major depiction of a coin coming with the 1921 introduction of the gold Centenario.

History

Mexican Libertad 1 oz Silver Coins debuted in 1982, ranking the Mexican Libertad Silver program as the first major silver bullion coin program of the 20th century. The 1 oz coin was issued alone until 1991 when the Mexican Mint introduced 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz coins. In 1996, 2 oz and 5 oz coins joined the program, followed by a 1 Kilo coin in 2008.
