{{/presale}}Mexican Libertad silver bullion coins are offered by the Mexican Mint in eight weights as of 2008. The series has long featured a 1 oz silver coin as the primary option with the highest mintage, but there are also four fractional-ounce coins and three coins greater than 1 oz in weight. The largest of the fractional-ounce coins is the 1/2 oz silver product. Today, you have the chance to get the 2020 Mexican Libertad 1/2 oz Silver Coin online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The fractional-ounce Mexican Libertad Silver Coins were the first additions to the series following the 1982 debut of the 1 oz bullion version. From 1982 to 1990, the 1 oz coin was the only option in the series. Starting in 1991, the Mexican Mint offered 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz coins as well. Further additions were made in 1996 with the 2 oz and 5 oz coins, and in 2008 with the 1 Kilo coin.
Obverse
On the obverse face of 2020 Mexican Libertad 1/2 oz Silver coins, you will find the image of Winged Victory in the foreground and the mountain peaks at Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl in the distance. The mountain peaks are named after an ancient Aztec love story and you can tell the two apart by their shape. Popocatepetl is to the right, while Iztaccihuatl is the mountain to the left with numerous peaks. Iztaccihuatl translates as white woman and reverse to the snow-capped peaks that take on the appearance of a sleeping woman. When viewed from east to west, the mountains peaks resemble the head, chest, knees, and feet of a sleeping woman.
Winged Victory is the statue figure in the foreground. Inspired by the goddess Victoria and known as the Angel of Independence, this 22-foot tall statue is depicted exactly as it is seen in real life in Mexico City on the Mexican Independence Victory Column.
Reverse
The reverse side of all 2020 Mexican Libertad 1/2 oz Silver Coins features the modern coat of arms. The national emblem depicts a powerful golden eagle on its cactus perch as it fights with a serpent in its talons and beak.
History
The Mexican Libertad 1/2 oz Silver coins typically have a strong demand that is in line with the other fractional-ounce, 2 oz, and 5 oz silver coins in the series. In 2019, the Mexican Libertad 1/2 oz Silver Coin had the highest mintage among the four fractional-ounce coins at 8,500.
