{{/presale}}St. Helena is a tiny island in the South Atlantic Ocean off of the coast of Africa, but is a territory of Great Britain. Remembered as the island on which Napoleon Bonaparte was imprisoned in exile by the British, St. Helena is the nation of issue for a beautiful series of Trade Dollar Silver Coins. Provident Metals currently offers the 2020 Japanese Trade Dollar 1 oz Silver Coin for purchase online.
Coin Highlights:
Trade dollars were popularly issued through the Asia-Pacific region in the 19th century after the Opium Wars in China between China and Great Britain. British victories in both major Opium Wars of the century forced open Chinese ports to outside trade and nations throughout the region began to issue trade silver dollars to facilitate smoother trade between China and nations in the region.
Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II is depicted on the obverse side of 2020 Japanese Trade Dollar 1 oz Silver Coins. This is the latest effigy of the Queen to feature on British currency and was introduced in 2015 by the Royal Mint of England. The design captures the Queen at the age of 89 and showcases her with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head in right-profile relief.
Reverse
This side of the 2020 Japanese Trade Dollar Silver Coin comes with a stylized Japanese dragon. This is the same design that was used on Japanese trade dollars issued in the 19th century. This side of the coin, like the obverse, has an oriental border design.
History
Japanese trade dollar coins were only issued during a three-year period from 1875 to 1877, with most of the coins struck in 1876 and 1877. In total, some 2.73 million coins were produced. However, when the Japanese adopted the gold standard for currency in 1897, the trade silver dollars in circulation and the 1 Yen silver coin were demonetized by the government.
Ordering
The 2020 Japanese Trade Dollar 1 oz Silver Coins available in this listing are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Each coin is packaged individually inside of a protective plastic capsule or in a mint tube of 18 coins. These coins are the fourth design available in the Trade Dollar silver series following the Britannia British Trade Dollar, US Seated Liberty Trade Dollar, and the Chinese Dragon Trad Dollar designs.
