{{/presale}}The United States Mint often issues commemorative coin designs to mark special occasions. In 2020, this included a solemn nod to the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. This bullion release offered a 1/2 oz gold coin and a 1 oz silver medal to collectors and the series came with limited mintage figures. Today, certified-perfect 2020 End of WWII 75th Anniversary 1/2 oz Gold Coins are available to you online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The United States Mint celebrated the 75th anniversary of the End of World War II in 2020 with a beautiful design honoring a hard-earned peace. These obverse and reverse images were used on both the 1/2 oz gold bullion coin and the 1 oz silver medal the mint issued. While these gold coins had a mintage of only 7,500 coins, the 1 oz silver medals had a mintage of 20,000 in total.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2020 End of WWII 75th Anniversary Gold Coins, you will find a depiction of the American bald eagle with an olive branch in its talon. The bird flies into view with one wing swooping beneath the design field and its talon extended holding out the olive branch. The inscriptions on this side of the coin read 1945, LIBERTY, WORLD WAR II, and the W mint mark of the West Point Mint.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2020 End of WWII 75th Anniversary 1/2 oz Coins features a depiction of an olive tree. This tree is set on the field beneath the rising sun, a symbol of a bright new day of peace rising around the world with the end of hostilities. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 2020, $25, and AU 24K 1/2 OZ.
History
While the United States remained neutral through the first two years of World War II, Japans unprovoked attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, dragged the United States into the conflict. The US would take on a new role in the conflict as an active leader of the Allies, both in terms of production and deployment. The US was the only nation to successfully execute a two-front war throughout the conflict, helping its European allies defeat Nazi Germany by May 1945, and leading the charge in crossing the Pacific one island at a time before deploying Atomic bombs against Imperial Japan to force its unconditional surrender in August 1945.
