{{/presale}}The HMS Bounty is one of the most famous sailing vessels from the Age of Exploration. Originally a private merchant vessel known as Bethia, the Royal Navy purchased and refitted the ship for a special botanical mission to the South Pacific. The ship was meant to sail from Spithead to Tahiti and then on to the West Indies colonies of the British Empire. Provident Metals now has 2020 Cook Islands Bounty 1 oz Gold Coins available to you for purchase online.

Queen Elizabeth II graces the obverse side of 2020 Cook Islands Bounty 1 oz Gold Coins. This effigy of the Queen was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley for the Royal Mint of England and shows the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. The right-profile portrait of Her Majesty is found along with inscriptions of Elizabeth II, Cook Islands, and 2020.
Reverse
A depiction of the HMS Bounty is found on the reverse of the 2020 Cook Islands Bounty 1 oz Gold Coin. The image of the Bounty captures the ship as it was originally designed with its three masts and full rigging. The ship displaced a total of 215 tons and was considered rather small by Royal Navy cargo standards. When the ship was refitted by the Royal Navy, it was given four 4-pound cannons and 10 swivel guns. The inscriptions on this face of the coin read 100 Dollars and 1 oz Fine Gold .9999.
History
The HMS Bounty set out from Spithead intending to sail west around Cape Horn at the tip of South America. Bad weather forced the ship to turn and head east toward Africas southern tip and through the Indian Ocean toward Tahiti. After a 10-month voyage, the Bounty reached Tahiti. The crew spent five months living on the island while harvesting breadfruit plants. Many of the crew ended up in relationships with islanders, with some even marrying native Tahitians. In April 1789, the ship set sail for the West Indies, but a mutiny led by lieutenant Fletcher Christian successfully overturned control of the ship. His supporters sailed with him back toward Tahiti, eventually settling on what is now Pitcairn Island. There, the Bounty was burned and sunk.
