{{/presale}}Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins are among the most secure bullion specimens in the world today. In 2014, the Royal Canadian Mint added radial lines to the background field of the obverse and reverse sides of Canadian Maple Leaf coins. It later added laser-engraved maple leaf privy marks with the final two digits of the date mark included within. Provident Metals offers the chance to purchase 2020 Canadian Maple Leaf 1/20 oz Gold Coins online.
Highlights:
Canadian Maple Leaf coins have been available from the Royal Canadian Mint since 1979. The mint has expanded the series dramatically from its original 1 oz gold option in 1979. The series added four fractional-ounce coins in the 1980s and 1990s, with a 1 Gram coin added in 2014.
Obverse
The obverse face of 2020 Canadian Maple Leaf 1/20 oz Gold Coins features the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is depicted in right-profile relief in this portrait created by Susanna Blunt in 2003. This is the fourth-generation effigy of the Queen during her reign and the first image of her on Canadian coinage without a crown.
Reverse
For the reverse, 2020 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins use the sugar maple leaf design introduced in 1979. Created by Walter Ott, this popular image is used on all weights of the Canadian Maple Leaf available across the Silver Maple Leaf, Platinum Maple Leaf, and Palladium Maple Leaf issues. The maple leaf privy on this side of the coin has the digits 20 visible under magnification at its center.
History
Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins were introduced at a time when only the South African Krugerrand Gold Coin was available. The introduction of Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins at this time was an effort to provide Western investors with continued access to gold bullion coins. The apartheid system in South Africa had drawn an economic boycott of the country in Western nations, slowing the flow of Krugerrands to investors in the West. In the next 8 years, the Chinese Mint, United States Mint, and Royal Mint of England would all issue their own gold bullion coins for the first time as well.
