{{/presale}}It is amazing the tales the human mind can come up with to explain otherwise unexplainable events. It is even more amazing when some of those tales are shown to have a footing in reality. Such is the case with the Kraken. A mythical beast that first arose in the tales of Viking sailors throughout the North Sea in the 13th century, the modern world caught one of its first glimpses of the beast that inspired the Kraken when a 55-foot squid washed up in Newfoundland, Canada, in 1878. Right now, you can buy the new 2020 Canadian Kraken 2 oz Silver Coin online from Provident Metals.

Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II features in right-profile relief on the obverse of 2020 Canadian Kraken 2 oz Silver Coins. This fourth-generation bust of the Queen was created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt for the Royal Canadian Mint. Ms. Blunt is just the second Canadian artist to ever design a monarch portrait for the mint, following the footsteps of Dora de Pedery-Hunt whose third-generation effigy of the Queen was used directly before this portrait from 1990 to 2002.
Reverse
Gerald Gloade captures the devastating wrath of the Kraken on the reverse of 2020 Canadian Kraken Silver Coins. This design showcases the greatest fear of sailors traversing the worlds oceans from the 13th century to the early 20th century: that of the Kraken. This massive beast was rumored to be the size of a wooden sailing ship, if not larger. It was often said to be capable of engulfing an entire ship in its tentacles and dragging the ship and its unlucky crew to the depths.
History
Viking sailors first told tales of the Kraken on travels between Scandinavia, the British Isles, and Greenland during the 13th century. A beast in the North Sea was rumored to drag ships down the icy depths leaving only a lucky few, in some cases, alive. The Kraken myth persisted throughout the centuries with Canadians first reporting sightings of the beast in the 1700s. The terror of the Kraken came to life in 1878 when a massive squid washed up on the shores of Glovers Bay.
