History
If you examine old black-and-white news clips prior to Queen Elizabeth IIs coronation, you can see footage of James Woodford at work on his legendary Queens Beasts statues. The sculptures were completed for the coronation, which took place on June 2, 1953. These heraldic beasts were placed outside of Westminster Abbey and were meant to symbolically guard Elizabeth as she ascended to the throne.
