Obverse
For the obverse of 2020 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins, the US Mint features the brilliant Walking Liberty design. This artwork was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman and symbolized Americas desire for a brighter future. That is featured in Libertys left-profile relief as she walks toward the sun on the horizon carrying the branches of oak and laurel in her left hand. She wears the American flag over her shoulders in this design as well.
Reverse
2020 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins bear the image of the heraldic eagle of the United States on the reverse. First designed in 1794 by Robert Scot, the national emblem was modified for this series by John Mercanti in 1986. This modern take on the emblem features a powerful American bald eagle with the national shield on its chest. The bird clutches the arrows of war in one talon and the olive branch of peace in the other.
History
American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins are produced in the modern era by the West Point Mint. All bullion versions of the coin have been struck at West Point since 2001. Prior to that, the Philadelphia Mint issued the coins in 1999 and 2000, with the San Francisco Mint coining American Eagle Silver Coins from 1986 to 1998.
