{{/presale}}The African nation of Rwanda is one of the most well-represented on the continent when it comes to bullion coin collections. The Rwandan Wildlife Collection, for example, has been in production since 2008 with fresh designs available each year and the Rwandan Nautical Ounce is another example of fresh design approaches available for Rwandan coins. Today, you have the chance to add the 2019 Rwandan Victoria Nautical Ounce 1 oz Silver Coin to your collection courtesy of Provident Metals.
Highlights:
In the Rwandan Nautical Ounce Series, different wooden ships from the glorious era of the tall-masted sailing vessel are featured on the obverse of the coins with each release. Unlike other collections, this series doesnt focus on ships based on the doom-and-gloom each may have met on the high seas, but rather, focuses on ships that were part of impressive voyages that opened up the world to greater exploration.
Obverse
The ship known as Victoria is depicted sailing on calm waters on the obverse of 2019 Rwandan Victoria Nautical Ounce 1 oz Silver Coins. Victoria was helmed in its day by the legendary Ferdinand Magellan and is featured here with a compass inset in the background design and a sextant above, a navigational instrument used to measure the angular distance between two visible objects.
Reverse
The Rwandan Coat of Arms is featured on the reverse face of all coins in the Rwandan Nautical Ounce Silver Series. The design field sets the national seal in the center with the national name and motto included in the design of the coat of arms as Republika YU Rwanda and Ubumwe-Umurimo-Gukunda Igihugu. These inscriptions, as well as the bank of issue and face value are listed in Kinyarwanda, the native tongue of Rwanda.
History
The Victoria was one of five ships gifted to Magellan for his global exploration by King Charles I of Spain. The Victoria was a carrack, a three- to four-masted ship specifically designed for ocean voyages. Victorias place in human history is forever etched as it was the first to ever successfully circumnavigate the globe.
