Obverse
On the obverse of 2020 Proof Mexican Libertad 1/10 oz Gold Coins, you will find a depiction of the Roman goddess of victory, Victoria. In Mexican culture, she is known as Winged Victory and stands as a symbol of Mexican independence from Spanish colonial control. Winged Victory hoists a crown wreath over her head in her right hand symbolizing self-governance. Her left hand clutches a set of broken chains marking the freedom from Spain the Mexican people earned in their independence war.
Reverse
For the reverse face, 2020 Proof Mexican Libertad Gold Coins use the modern coat of arms for Mexico in the design. The seal focuses on a Mexican golden eagle on a cactus as it battles a serpent using its talons and beak. The eagle is symbolic of Mexico while the snake represents Spain. Estados Unidos Mexicanos is inscribed above the seal and a wreath design is featured below.
History
Proof Mexican Libertad Gold Coins debuted in 1983, but only three options were produced between 1983 and 2004. It wasnt until 2005 that the five weights now available in the series were produced on an annual basis. Since that time, only the 2012 release year featured no coins in any of the weights.
