{{/presale}}In the summer of 1969, NASA achieved a decade-long goal of sending human beings to the surface of the moon and returning those individuals safely to Earth. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of that landmark achievement, the United States Mint issued a range of gold and silver coins. Among them was a 5 oz Silver Dollar coin. Right now, you can purchase that 2019 Proof American Apollo 11 50th Anniversary 5 oz Silver Dollar from Provident Metals in perfect condition.
Highlights:
These 2019 Proof American Apollo 11 50th Anniversary 5 oz Silver Dollar coins and other issues in the Apollo 11 Series from the mint have convex and concave field. The convex field offers a 3D element, while the concave field has a sunken curvature to it.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2019 Proof American Apollo 11 50th Anniversary 5 oz Silver Dollar Coins is the image of the footprint of an astronaut on the lunar surface. Inscriptions on this side include Mercury, Gemini, Apollo at the top as a nod to the programs from NASA that pioneered space travel in its early days in the United States from 1959 to 1972.
Reverse
The reverse field captures a popular image taken on the moon by the astronauts of Apollo 11. Reflected in the visor of Buzz Aldrin, the reverse of the 2019 Proof American Apollo 11 50th Anniversary 5 oz Silver Coin showcases the picture of Neil Armstrong on the lunar surface near the American flag and Eagle lunar lander. The very outer edges of the design field showcase the helmet of Aldrin.
History
The Apollo 11 mission was part of the broader Apollo program at NASA that ran from 1961 to 1972. Three men were part of the Apollo 11 mission in July 1969. Michael Collins was the command module pilot and the only one of the three not to go to the moon. Neil Armstrong was the mission commander and went to the moon with lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin.
