History

The Austrian Philharmonic bullion series debuted from the Austrian Mint in 1989. The series originated as a gold bullion collection and remained a gold exclusive until 2008. In 2008, the mint introduced the Austrian Philharmonic Silver Coins. The series uses the same design on the obverse and reverse that Chief Engraver Thomas Pesendorfer developed in 1989 for the gold bullion version of the coin.
