2019 Cast the First Stone Biblical 2 oz Silver Coins are available to you for purchase today with a Bible-themed presentation case from the Scottsdale Mint. The case houses a single 2 oz silver coin and comes with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. Included within the case is the text from the passage in the Bible that is depicted on the reverse of the coin. In this case, that text comes from the Book of John, Chapter 8 versus 1-11.

Obverse

The Scottsdale Mint chose a different path for the obverse design of its 2019 Cast the First Stone Biblical 2 oz Silver Coins. Rather than using the modern effigy of Her Majesty, the mint chose the third-generation British coin design from Raphael Maklouf. Used on British currency from 1985 to 1997, this elegant and regal portrait of Queen Elizabeth II captures her with the Royal Diadem crown on her head.

Reverse

The reverse artwork of the 2019 Cast the First Stone Biblical 2 oz Silver Coin is based on Gustave Dores work from illustrations for the Bible that he created in 1866. Here, you see Jesus defending a downcast woman accused of adultery from an angry mob.

History

As depicted in this design, the text from the Book of John discusses a moment in which scholars were trying to trap Jesus by attempting to have him defend an adulterer rather than supporting the punishment for the crime as put forth by the laws of Moses. In rebuttal, Jesus suggests that the woman should be stoned, but that those without sin should be the ones to step forth and cast stones at the woman.

Ordering

The Scottsdale Mint introduced the Biblical Silver Series in 2015 with new designs issued annually. All coins have individual serial numbers laser-etched on the edges of rimless blanks. The overall appearance of the coin is similar to that of ancient currency. If you have any questions, please contact Provident Metals.
