{{/presale}}In the summer of 1969, millions tuned in around the globe to see humanity achieve one of its greatest feats of innovation in the 20th century. Three astronauts from NASA lifted off from Merritt Island in Florida with the ultimate destination being the surface of the moon. The mission marked the culmination of a decade of work and the first time human beings had not just left the Earths atmosphere, but set foot on a different celestial body. Today, you have the chance to purchase 2019 Australian Anniversary of the Moon Landing 1 oz Gold Coins from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Your 2019 Australian Anniversary of the Moon Landing 1 oz Gold Coin is available from the Perth Mint of Western Australia. These coins are all in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and feature protective plastic capsules for individual packaging. The coins were issued by the Perth Mint to celebrate Australias role in the communication and televising of the 1969 Apollo 11 mission to the moon.
Obverse
The obverse of Australian Anniversary of the Moon Landing Gold Coins includes the latest portrait of Queen Elizabeth II for Australian coins. This is the sixth-generation bust of Her Majesty to grace Australian coins and was created by Jody Clark. Unlike Mr. Clarks design for the Royal Mint of Englands latest portrait, this image includes the Queens neckline and shoulders. This marks the first time since 1966 those features have been included in Her Majestys portrait.
Reverse
On the reverse of 2019 Australian Anniversary of the Moon Landing 1 oz Gold Coins is the image of the lunar surface. In the immediate foreground, you will notice the large footprint left by one of the two American astronauts that descended to the lunar surface and spent time exploring the moon. In the background, you see the Eagle lunar lander that transported Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin from the command module down to the lunar surface and back again.
History
In 1961, President John F. Kennedy issued a challenge to the American people that the nation should commit itself to victory in the space race. The Soviet Union had struck the first major blow with the successful launch and orbit of its Sputnik satellite, but in July 1969, the Americans struck the deciding blow in sending men to the moon and returning them safely to Earth.
