The Comstock Lode is found in Nevada. When a rich lode of silver was discovered in 1859, the prospectors that had flocked out west a decade earlier to Californias gold rush now turned their gaze to the east and moved to Nevada in mass numbers. Comstock was the first major silver-mining district in the United States and led to the establishment of Gold Hill and Virginia City. Later silver rushes would occur in Austin, Eureka, and Pioche between 1862 and 1869.
