Highlights:
If you purchase the 2019 Proof Latent South Korean Tiger 1 oz Silver Medal available to you in this product listing, you will receive an item that has a protective capsule and a black presentation box. Each individual silver medal comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from KOMSCO as well.
Obverse
A Korean tiger is depicted on the obverse of the 2019 Proof Latent South Korean Tiger 1 oz Silver Medal. This tiger is on the attack as it uses its massive front paws to rip through the design field leaving behind several tear marks. The background of those tear marks and the wider background field have the new latent security lines included.
Reverse
The Korean peninsula is featured on the reverse of all 2019 South Korean Tiger 1 oz Silver Medals. This common design element to the series is depicted without political boundaries or geographic features included. What you see here is the stylized appearance of the peninsula with the letters of the Hangul, the Korean alphabet, forming the shape. The KOMSCO security mark is to the right of the design field, while the Taeguk is to the left. The Taeguk is the national emblem and features on the Korean flag as well.
History
Korean tiger bullion medals are based on the history of Siberian tigers on the peninsula. The last wild Korean tiger was killed by hunters near Mount Daedeok in either 1921 or 1922. The Korean tiger was, in actuality, the Siberian tiger. Locals referred to it as the Korean tiger because of its regional appearance on the peninsula.
