The Chiwoo Cheonwang Series of coins were created to depict the famous God of War. Every year, there is a new depiction of Cheonwang in a different stage of battle preparation. One medallion showed Cheonwang preparing for battle, another showed him charging into battle, and another showed him surveying the scene after a victory.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2018 South Korean Chiwoo Cheonwang 1/4 oz Gold Medallion features the image of Cheonwangs shield. The shield has the face of Do ggae bi on it. Do ggae bi is a hobgoblin-like creature with a grotesque fact that was meant to intimidate enemies in battles. He was also used to guard homes against evil spirits in Korea.

Reverse

The image of Chiwoo Cheonwang graces the back of these gold medallions on horseback. As his horse carries him into battle, his sword is drawn and ready to cut down his enemies. In this image, he looks as fierce as he is rumored to have been.

History

This series was launched in 2016 to celebrate the God of War in Korean mythology, Chiwoo Cheonwang. He was a leader of a founding tribe of China, and they say that he was unstoppable in battle. He had mythical powers that helped him defeat his enemies. Rumor has it that in 10 years of battle, he never lost.

Ordering

These medals ship in protective plastic flips to protect their BU condition. Only 1,000 of the medallions were created, so it is important to protect your investment in your 2018 South Korean Chiwoo Cheonwang 1/4 oz Gold Medallion.
