{{/presale}}Each year, the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation (KOMSCO) unveils a new design in the Zi:Sin coin series that corresponds with the 12-year cycle of the lunar calendar. Zi:Sin stands for the Twelve Guardians: God’s commanders who are assigned to protect the human race from all twelve directions around the globe. The commanders roam the earth, protecting mankind from threats like demons and plagues by wielding their extraordinary powers over nature. While the commanders are in human form, each one wears a helmet and carries a unique weapon representing a mythical creature.
As 2018 is the Year of the Dog, this year’s release features the image of Canis, the messenger of upcoming events in god’s army. Canis bravely stands at the army’s front lines, protecting and guiding the other 12 commanders as they battle mankind’s foes.
The obverse of the 12 medals in the Zi:Sin series share a common design. Featured here is the image of the Do ggae bi, a supernatural creature believed to protect against evil spirits. According to tradition, Korean people hang the image of Do ggae bi off roof tiles to prevent evil spirits from entering their homes. Engravings on the obverse also include “REPUBLIC OF KOREA” and “2018 FINE GOLD 999.”This side also features KOMSCO’s latent security engraving of “999” and “KOMSCO” in the center of the design field.
On the reverse is the image of Canis poised to strike on the front lines of the battlefield. He wears an elaborate suit of armor, and his unsheathed claws are prepared to slice into the nearest enemy. His name, “Zi:Sin Canis” is also inscribed on this side of the coin
KOMSCO is the official sovereign mint of South Korea. Since 1951, KOMSCO has been a world-class leader in the production of secure bullion products and currency. The company has expanded over the decades to include products like ID cards and electronic passports. KOMSCO now exports these products to over 40 countries around the world.
