Obverse
The obverse side of 2018-S Proof American Eagle Silver Coins comes with a depiction of Walking Liberty. This historic design shows Liberty in left-profile relief walking toward the sun as it crests a mountain on the horizon. Her right hand is outstretched, her left hand carries branches of oak and laurel, and the American flag is draped around her figure. The inscriptions read LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2018.
Reverse
On the reverse field of 2018-S Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins, you will find the heraldic eagle of the United States. Created originally in 1794 by Robert Scot, this version of the seal was modified in 1986 by John Mercanti for this series. It includes a front-facing bald eagle with the US national shield, arrows of war, olive branch of peace, and a cluster of 13 stars. Inscriptions on this field of the coin include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER – ONE DOLLAR, and an S mint mark from the San Francisco Mint.
History
The San Francisco Mint issued the Proof American Eagle Silver Coins from 1986 to 1992. In 2018, it resumed coining Proof American Eagle Silver Coins. This first new strike by the San Francisco Mint had a mintage of 208,270 coins compared to the 381,810 coins issued by the West Point Mint that year in the Proof American Eagle Silver Series.
