{{/presale}}The Perth Mint is well-known for its innovative designs and approach to minting bullion collectible coins. Among its most impressive recent releases is the Australian Rectangular Dragon series that includes silver and gold bullion coins, with low-mintage proof coins available as well. Today, you can purchase the 2018 Proof Australian Rectangular Dragon 1 oz Silver Coin at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Dragons are central to Chinese culture. Ancient Chinese emperors used the dragon as a symbol of their own power because of the association of power and military strength between the dragon and those who used it as a symbol. One of Chinas early emperors even claimed to have descended directly from dragons. Today, the dragon is the official symbol of the Peoples Republic of China and is a symbol of power, strength, and even good fortune.
Obverse
For the obverse side of 2018 Proof Australian Rectangular Dragon 1 oz Silver Coins, the Perth Mint uses the 1998 right-profile bust of Queen Elizabeth II created by Ian Rank-Broadley. Her Majesty wears the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara on her head and has a background field dominated by sunburst rays. Inscriptions above include Elizabeth II, Australia, and 1 oz 9999 Ag. Below her portrait are inscriptions of 1 Dollar and 2018.
Reverse
The reverse face of 2018 Proof Australian Rectangular Dragons features the image of a dragon slithering up the length of the bar. This traditional Asian depiction of a dragon as a serpent includes a long body with four legs and a forked tongue. The dragon is chasing the flaming pearl and has artistic background elements representing waves at the bottom and clouds blowing in the wind throughout.
History
The design elements on the reverse capture various artistic styles long used in Chinese art when dragons are involved. For example, the dragon is often shown in Chinese art chasing the flaming pearl. The pearl represents wisdom, and as such, the pursuit of the pearl represents the pursuit of knowledge. Dragons are also associated in Chinese culture with weather patterns and water, hence the inclusion of artistic waves and clouds.
Ordering
These 2018 Proof Australian Rectangular Dragon 1 oz Silver Coins ship in a clear latex case that displays both design fields of the coin at the same time. The case ships in a themed shipping box with dragon illustrations and comes with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
