Block Island National Wildlife Refuge is located on Block Island, a plot of land in the Atlantic Ocean situated 9 miles south of Rhode Islands coastline and 14 miles east of Long Island in New York. The island itself is named for a Dutch explorer who first spent time on the island, Adriaen Block.
Obverse
President George Washington is depicted on the obverse of the 2018 Colorized ATB Block Island National Wildlife Refuge 5 oz Silver Coin. The bust of the first President of the United States of America featured here was created in 1932 by John Flanagan for use on the circulation quarter.
Reverse
A black-crowned night heron glides over Cow Cove beach in the reverse design on the 2018 Colorized ATB Block Island National Wildlife Refuge 5 oz Silver Coin. The famed North Lighthouse on the island is also depicted in the distant background on this side of the coin.
