Making the cut for this series were the following landmarks, in order of issue: Big Ben, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square, and Buckingham Palace. Each release in this series has a limited mintage of just 50,000 silver coins.

Obverse

On the obverse face of the 2018 British Trafalgar Square 1 oz Silver Coin, you will find the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty has been featured on British currency since her formal ascension to the throne in 1953. In this design from 2015, the Queen is shown in right-profile relief at the age of 89 with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. This particular crown was commissioned by King George IV shortly after he ascended the throne in 1820. It features 1,333 diamonds with a total weight of more than 300 karats.

Reverse

The reverse field of the 2018 British Trafalgar Square 1 oz Silver Coin gives you a glimpse of the column with a statue of Admiral Horatio Nelson from the vantage point of the guardian lions positioned within the square. The square was converted in the mid-19th century to honor the heroics and achievements of Admiral Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar. Nelsons bust atop a column in the center of the square is guarded by four bronze lions.

History

The Battle of Trafalgar was a decisive one that took place off the Cape of Trafalgar and involved the British Royal Navy confronting a combined force of French and Spanish naval vessels.
