{{/presale}}The longest-running silver bullion program from the Perth Mint is the iconic Australian Silver Kookaburra. The first of its annual releases to feature a native species, the Kookaburra coin has featured new designs on the reverse every year since its original 1990 release. The 2017 1 oz Proof Australian Silver Kookaburra Coin is now available to you for purchase online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Introduced in 1990, the Australian Kookaburra coin series was the first bullion coin series from the Perth Mint to feature a native species with a new design planned each year. Available in gold and silver each year, the Kookaburra is the longest-running program from the mint.
The Australian Kookaburra is a member of the kingfisher species of birds, and is found primarily in the Outback and Australian bush. The bird is noted for its human-like laughter as a call. Australian Silver Kookaburra coins are available in bullion sizes in 2017 as 1 oz, 2 oz, 5 oz, and 10 oz, and 1 Kilo options in addition to the series of 2017 Proof Australian Silver Kookaburras.
Obverse
The obverse of all 2017 1 oz Proof Australian Silver Kookaburra Coins features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the fourth-generation effigy of Her Majesty, created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley.
Reverse
On the reverse of the Australian Silver Kookaburra is the all-new 2017 design. This particular image features an adult kookaburra sitting along a shoddy wooden fence with a younger kookaburra. Common engravings of the series name, year of issue, weight, purity, and metal content feature on this side.
Each 2017 1 oz Proof Australian Silver Kookaburra Coin ships to you inside of the Perth Mints black display box, for protection and easy display in your collection. Each one ships inside a themed shipper for the Kookaburra Series, and features a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
These coins are a high relief strike from the Perth Mint. Each coin has a concave surface on both sides that ensures the optimal flow of molten silver into the die and an excellent strike that results in a beautiful finish.
The Perth Mint is Australias oldest operating mint facility. Opened in 1899, it was originally the third and final Royal Mint facility on the continent. Today it operates independently of the Royal Australian Mint, and is owned by the state government in Western Australia.
