Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II is depicted in right-profile relief on the obverse of the 2017 Australian Wedge Tail Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin. This portrait of the Queen was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley and featured on Australian coins through 2018/2019. It depicts the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, one of the Queens favorite tiaras. This tiara is worn by the Queen in the design of countless denominations in Britain and is the one that was gifted to Mary of Teck upon her marriage to the future King George V, the grandfather of Queen Elizabeth II.
Reverse
A wedge tail eagle is featured in the reverse design of the 2017 Australian Wedge Tail Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin. This image captures the powerful wedge-tail eagle on its perch, head turned as it keeps an eye out for dangers and its wings resting at its side. The bird sits on the broken branch of a tree. Inscriptions on this face include the name of the coin series, the date mark, the weight, purity, and metal content of the coin. There is also a P mint mark on this face of the coin.
History
The Perth mints Australian Wedge Tail Eagle Silver Coins marks a combination of works between the Perth Mint of Western Australia and John Mercanti, the former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.
