Obverse
On the obverse side of 2017 American Eagle Palladium Coins is a depiction of lady Liberty in left-profile relief. This bust of Liberty is known as Winged Liberty. Lady Liberty wears a winged Phrygian cap on her head in a design used on the US Dime from 1916 to 1945. The design was so reminiscent of the Roman messenger god, Mercury, that people came to know it as the Mercury Dime. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include Liberty, In God We Trust, and 2017.
Reverse
The reverse face of 2017 American Eagle 1 oz Palladium Coins includes an image of the American bald eagle. The bald eagle shown here originally appeared on a gold medal and was designed in 1907. The bald eagle lands on a cliff edge as it reaches with its talons to clutch a sapling. The inscriptions on this side of the coin read United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, $25, and 1 oz Pd .9995 Fine.
History
American Eagle 1 oz Palladium Coins feature the iconic Mercury Dime design. The image was created by Adolph A. Weinman and featured on the US Dime from 1916 to 1945. It replaced the Barber Coinage dime and was later replaced by the Roosevelt Dime, the image still in use on the Dime today.
