{{/presale}}The 2016 American Centennial Gold Coins were released to mark 100 years since the 1916 redesign of the dime, quarter, and half dollar. The images released by the US Mint that year helped modernize those circulation silver coins and resulted in some of the most famous Liberty designs in American coining history. Right now, you can buy 2016-W American Standing Liberty 1/4 oz Gold Coins in near-perfect condition online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
With your purchase of the 2016-W American Standing Liberty 1/4 oz Gold Coin in this listing at Provident Metals, you will receive a coin with a near-perfect certification. Coins in this condition exhibit full, original mint luster and come with a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. To qualify for this grade, the flaws must not exceed minuscule contact marks or hairlines and must be located outside the primary fields of the coin.
Obverse
Standing Liberty is depicted on the obverse side of 2016 American Standing Liberty Gold Coins. This design features Liberty standing between two sections of wall with her right hand resting on the left wall with an olive branch, while her left hand rests on the right wall with a shield in it. The inscriptions read Liberty, In God We Trvst, 2016, and Au 24k 1/4 oz. The use of a V in place of a U is based on the Latin spelling of the word. There is also a “W” mint mark from the West Point Mint.
Reverse
An American bald eagle is depicted majestically soaring through the sky in the reverse design of the 2016 American Standing Liberty 1/4 oz Gold Coin. The birds image is clean and crisp with no background visuals. The inscriptions on this side of the coin include United States of America, Quarter Dollar, and E Plvribvs Vnvm, again using the Latin spelling with V instead of U.
History
The Standing Liberty Quarter design was a controversial one in its day as Hermon Atkins MacNeils original designs featured Liberty with a bare chest. The design enjoyed the shortest life of the three. While the Walking Liberty design graced the half dollar until 1947 and the Winged Liberty design the dime until 1945, Standing Liberty was canceled on the quarter in 1930 and later replaced in 1932 by the portrait of President George Washington that is still on the quarter today.
