{{/presale}}The fortieth issue in the First Spouse Gold Coin program, and the second-last coin to be released in the series, was a tribute to Nancy Reagan. Provident Metals makes it available to you with a proof-quality finish, the product of special treatments and a minting process that uses multiple strikes with hand-cleaned and polished dies. The resulting “cameo effect” describes its mirror-like backgrounds and frosted, sculpted foregrounds whose contrast with each other and dazzling shine accentuate the intricacies of its design. Paying tribute to the “Just Say No” anti-drug campaign with which Mrs. Reagan was most famously associated, the 2016-W Proof US Mint Nancy Reagan 1/2 oz Gold Coin is now available for online purchase.

Reverse
The First Lady also appears on the reverse field, this time with a pair of youths wearing “JUST SAY NO” t-shirts. This image is accompanied by the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “$10,” and “1/2 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD.”
History
The First Spouse Gold Coin program was set in motion by Congress in 2005, and the first coins to be issued came out in 2007. With multiple releases each year, the series was designed to celebrate the First Spouses of the nation ranging from Martha Washington up to Barbara Bush. The second-last release was devoted to Nancy Reagan, who was renowned for her dedication to a high-profile anti-drug campaign. The phrase “Just Say No” was the catchphrase of that campaign, first spoken in 1984 as the First Lady’s response to a schoolgirl’s question about what to do if peers offered her drugs. The campaign went on to produced school-run anti-drug programs and “Just Say No” clubs nationwide, and Mrs. Reagan traveled a total of over a quarter-million miles for appearances promoting it.
