{{/presale}}In 2016, the United States Mint issued the famous designs from its 1916 overhaul of American coinage for the 100th anniversary of the debut of those designs. Each one was reimagined on a 24-karat gold coin with a commemorative weight based on the face value of the original coin. For example, the Mercury Dime was reproduced on a 1/10 oz gold coin. Right now, you can buy 2016-W American Mercury Dime 1/10 oz Gold Coins online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
With your purchase of the 2016-W American Mercury Dime 1/10 oz Gold Coin in this product listing, you receive a beautiful black presentation case from the United States Mint that includes a capsule for the gold coin. Each coin in this product listing contains a stunning 1/10 Troy oz of 24-karat gold.
Obverse
The obverse face of the 2016 American Mercury Dime 1/10 oz Gold Coin features the famous Winged Liberty design. This left-profile bust of Liberty depicts her with a winged Phrygian cap reminiscent of the one the Roman messenger god Mercury is often shown wearing. Because of the similarity between the two depictions, Americans took to calling this coin the Mercury Dime rather than the Winged Liberty Dime, as it was officially known. The inscriptions on this side of the coin read Liberty, In God We Trust, 2016, and AW, the initials of designer Adolph A. Weinman.
Reverse
On the reverse side of 2016-W American Mercury Dime 1/10 oz Gold Coins is a depiction of the Roman fasces. A symbol of power wielded by Roman magistrates, the fasces represents military might and accomplishment, but here it is wrapped with an olive branch as a sign of peace and power. Inscriptions on this face read United States of America, One Dime, E Pluribus Unum, and Au 24k 1/10 oz.
History
The 2016 American Gold Series from the United States recreated the images of the famous Mercury Dime, Standing Liberty Quarter, and Walking Liberty Half Dollar. These designs were reimagined on 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/2 oz 24-karat gold coins for a limited time to honor the 100th anniversary of each coin designs debut back in 1916. Adolph A. Weinman was responsible for creating the Mercury Dime and Walking Liberty images, with Hermon Atkins MacNeil creating the Standing Liberty Quarter design.
