The program debuted in 2015, with six new designs being released every year. The 2016 Niue The Good Samaritan Biblical 2 oz Silver Coin Series is the 4th design released in 2016, and is the 10th design of the series. Each of the coins contains 2 Troy oz of .999 pure silver and were issued in a mintage limited to just 1,499. These coins are highly popular and eagerly anticipated each and every year that they are released.
Highlights:
Your 2016 Niue The Good Samaritan Biblical 2 oz Silver Coin Series is delivered to you secured in a Bible-themed presentation box that opens up to reveal the coin and the Certificate of Authenticity. The serial number on the Certificate of Authenticity matches the one that is laser-engraved on the edge of the coin.
Each of the coins in the Biblical Coin Series features artwork that depicts some of the most well-known stories that come from the Christian bible. This coin tells of the parable of the Good Samaritan, as was recounted in the gospel of Luke, 10:25-37. This story is told to teach all of us about love and compassion for those among us who are suffering. The story tells of a traveler who has been beaten, stripped of his clothes, and left half-dead along a roadside. Both a priest and a Levite are the first to come upon the man, both of whom should have rendered aid to the injured man. But neither did. It is a Samaritan, passing by, that lends aid.
Obverse
The obverse design of the 2016 Niue The Good Samaritan Biblical 2 oz Silver Coin Series features the right-profile portrait of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. This portrait was brought to life by British sculptor Raphael Maklouf in 1984 and is the third-generation portrait of Her Majesty.
Reverse
The reverse design of the 2016 Niue The Good Samaritan Biblical 2 oz Silver Coin Series features a Good Samaritan helping a man down from a horse, as he arrives at an inn from being rescued from the side of the road. The words The Good Samaritan are engraved on the reverse of the coin.
The Scottsdale Mint is a private mint that provides beautifully designed coins to nations around the world. The 2016 Niue The Good Samaritan Biblical 2 oz Silver Coin Series was struck with immense pressure, on rimless blanks, to give the coins an almost 3D appearance. Each of the coins was finished with an antique polish that lends them the appearance of ancient currency.
