{{/presale}}The Rwandan Wildlife Series features coin designs with various African animals on the obverse side of the coin. This year, the meerkat is featured on the coins from this popular series. Right now, you can purchase the 2016 Rwandan Meerkat 1 oz Silver Coin from Provident Metals in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition.
Highlights:
Meerkats are small members of the mongoose family that live in the desert regions of southern Africa spanning Botswana, Namibia, Angola, and South Africa. They live in clans of around 20, but some families contain up to 50 meerkats.
Obverse
On the obverse face of these coins, youll find the image of a meerkat family on the lower left side of the coin. Off to the upper right, youll see the continent of Africa. With each new release, the African continent remains in the same position, with the new animal to the lower left. The outside rim features engravings of the weight, purity, metal content, year, and continent of origin.
Reverse
The reverse side of the coin contains the official seal of the nation of Rwanda. All the engravings on the reverse side of the coin are inscribed in a native language of Rwanda. The face value of 50 Francs is also engraved on this side of the coin.
History
The Rwandan Wildlife Series was first released in 2008 as a way to celebrate the variety of native animals on the African continent. The first coin released was the African elephant, the largest mammal on the African continent. This release honors one of the smallest creatures to call Africa home.
All of the coins in the Rwandan Wildlife Series are struck by the BH Mayer mint. This mint is actually located in Munich, Germany. The Kunstprageanstalt Gmbh BH Mayer mint facility produces these coins with fairly low mintages, which makes them more desirable to collectors and investors.
